Gordon Ralph Lang, 1928–2025

We are saddened to announce the passing of Gordon Ralph Lang,
of Howick, Québec, on October 24, 2025, at the age of 97.

Gordon is predeceased by his parents James and Bertha Lang, and brothers Burton and Donald Y. Lang. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Thelma, son Doug (Joanne), daughters Janice (Dan) and Heather (Guy), grandchildren Matthew, Katie (Josh), Sarah, Emily, Robert and Meghan, great-grandchildren Zoe, Owen, Lucy and Eliza, sister-in-law Esther Lang, and extended family.

Gordon was born in Sherbrooke but spent the rest of his life working hard on the family farm on Tullochgorum, staying involved until a ripe old age. He was a 60-year member of Holstein Canada. He put his welding and carpentry skills to use building and repairing things on the farm, and enjoyed harvesting the crops and seeing the evolving farm practices.

In retirement he enjoyed playing at the Ormstown Curling Club, and took up woodworking, making furniture from pine wood grown on the Lang farm, and fashioning beautiful wooden clocks. He contributed to the community as a council member for Très-Saint-Sacrement in the 1970s, and also as an elder, and later a trustee for St. Paul’s United Church in Ormstown.

Gordon had an appreciation for antiques, he enjoyed seeing the C.V.A.A. show at Rennie’s farm and accompanying Thelma to the annual Dairyana Collectors picnic.

In his later senior years, he kept his mind sharp with word and number games and jigsaw puzzles. He was always well-read in current affairs reported in the Montreal Gazette, the Huntingdon Gleaner, and various farm magazines.

His long life gave him a broad perspective on what was happening day-to-day, and his long memory of local culture and families made him a valuable resource for those wanting to ask about the past.

Gordon will be fondly remembered and deeply missed,
by his family and all those who knew him.

Friends and neighbours are invited to remember Gordon at St. Paul’s United Church,
Ormstown, on Saturday, November 1, 2025; visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m.,
service at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at MacDougall Hall.

The family request that memorial tributes be made in the form of donations
to the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation  or to the St. Paul’s United Church
memorial fund, c/o James Sproule, 49 Gale, Ormstown, QC J0S 1K0.
