Dorothy Jane (Hooker) Barr

Dorothy Jane Hooker (Barr)

On January 25, 2020, following a brief illness. Youngest daughter of Mayford Orr and Eddie Hooker, she was born and grew up at Maple Hill Farm near Ormstown, Quebec.

Predeceased in 2003 by her husband of 48 years, Bob Barr, and by her brother Bill Hooker. Leaves to mourn her children Janice, Bruce and Heather (Kenny Welburn). Survived by her best friends and sisters Marjorie Templeton and Ruth Tannahill. Will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Angela Neal (Chris), Jesse Barr (Amanda) and Julie Neal (Josh) as well as her much-loved nieces and nephews, her brothers- and sisters-in-law, her long-time neighbours in Howick and many dear friends.

Retired after 30 years as an elementary school teacher at HES, Mary Gardiner and schools in both Quebec City and Westmount. Dorothy was a dedicated educator and took great pleasure in encounters with her many former students.

A long-time and active member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church, she had a deep and abiding faith. She loved many kinds of music and enjoyed playing the piano, especially when accompanying her favourite musicians.

She will be deeply missed by her family and was never happier than when in their midst. Her energy, love and honesty will always be remembered.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 30th, 2020 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the McGerrigle Funeral Home.
Funeral service at Georgetown Presbyterian Church on January 31, 2020, visitation from 12:30 to 2 p.m., funeral at 2 p.m.

Many thanks to Dr. Malec, Lynn Mason of the CLSC and especially to Robin Ovans of the OMC for all the assistance and support in helping us to navigate Mom’s final weeks.

Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
