Karen Elizabeth Buchanan (née Jones), 1958–2023

Karen passed away peacefully at home,
surrounded by her loved ones, on December 19, 2023
at the age of 65 years.

Daughter of late Shirley Ball, she is survived by her loving husband Ronald Buchanan, her son Christopher (Lianne), her daughter Monica (Christopher), by her grandchildren Serena, Evan and Kaleb, as well as by her siblings Lynn, Kevin and Heather.

Known for her big heart, she loved her family most of all. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and her several godchildren.

Growing up with a strong passion for sports, she was a naturally gifted soccer and softball player, and continued to support her family members’ sporting events throughout all levels of play.

For several years, she stood as a great leader in the Boy Scout community. Her devotion to the scouts was unmatched, having contributed to pinnacle moments in several individuals’ time there.

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024,
at the Georgetown Presbyterian Church in Howick,
with visitation as of 1 p.m. followed by the service at 3 p.m.

Those who wish to do so may make a memorial donation
to Epilepsy Canada or the Quebec Cancer Foundation.

Chris, at your young age, when you were playing hockey at Ste-Martine, your mom was always coming to see you playing and I had the chance to talk to her on a regular basis. She was by far, your best supporter. Again, my sympathies.

So very sad to hear about this news. Karen and I never spoke until we as classmates were added to Facebook. Then we would chat and like each other’s posts. My sincere condolences. Life definitely is too short for such a kind person.

Karen accepted her fate with a tremendous amount of courage and dignity. She so wanted to have 1 more Xmas with her grandchildren and the rest of her family. She was a free spirit and enjoyed life.

I remember when she was very young, she could not say her middle name so she called herself Karen Bisset Jones. May she rest in peace and her family be spared from further sorrow.
