Mary Hope (Reid) Greer, April 28, 1931—April 10, 2025

It is with great sorrow and love that the family announces
the passing of their mother Mary Hope (Reid) Greer,
on April 10, 2025.

Daughter of the late RJM (Bob) and Anita Reid, she was predeceased by her husband Leslie Greer of Ormstown; a sister, Ann Campbell, and her brother, Donald Reid. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Lyla Ouimet.

Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Elizabeth (Thomas) Mullins, Patricia, William (Paola) and David (Charmaine), and also by her five grandchildren, Rachelle, Andrew, Cooper, Keelynn and Alexander.

Raised in Hemmingford, Québec, Mary graduated as a registered nurse in 1952 from the Herbert Reddy Memorial Hospital in Montréal, and started her career in the area with the Red Cross. Shortly after that she began working at the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown, where she retired in 1996 as the head nurse of surgery and obstetrics.

Mary was proud to have grown up in the region and was always willing to serve the community, especially the Barrie Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and the St. Paul’s United Church UCW (United Church Women).

In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed travelling
to visit family, friends, and nature.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her neighbours,
friends and family, to the staff of the Barrie Memorial Hospital
and of the Huntingdon County Hospital.

On Friday, April 18, 2025, condolences will be received
at the McGerrigle Funeral Home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A service will be held the following day, Saturday, April 19th, at 2:00 p.m.
at the St. Paul’s United Church, 19 Lambton St., Ormstown, Québec J0S 1K0.

To honour Mary’s memory, a donation made to a charity
of your choice would be gratefully accepted.

Dear Betty, Patty, Bill and Dave,

Please accept my sincerest condolences on your Mum’s passing. I have very fond memories of her. The last being just after my dad and I moved into the little blue bungalow across from Barry Green’s. Your sweet mother arrived wearing a beautiful smile, carrying a plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies and most of all, a lovely greeting of, « Welcome back to The Concession! » Daddy and I so appreciated the gesture. Seeing your Mum with Allison C. sharing a laugh together was great. Mary
always had a genuine smile and caring soul.
I wish that I could be there to hug you all.
    Jane

Our sympathies to the family. Mary was a no nonsense, practical and caring person and mentor. She gave many of us the ability to stand our ground and work for the best of the patient. She was a fair leader. We were motivated by her actions and had fun at the same time. I am very grateful for having worked with her.

So sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing . As a young Nurse starting out working in the Barrie, i have many fond memories working along side her. She was a great teacher & a inspiration to me, to continue on for my RN, at which i did. Through time i got to see her, have a chat & recall old times when she went to the IGA.grocery store. I will miss though’s chats, but know she is at peace.
My sincere condolences to all the family.

To Elizabeth, Patti, Bill, Dave, and all her grandchildren,
I’m so sorry to hear about Auntie Mary. She was such a special lady — so thoughtful and kind. She always made me feel remembered, never missing a card at Christmas or on my birthday. I have such fond memories of our family gatherings at Cedar Creek for holidays and birthdays. Those times were filled with love and laughter, and I’ll always treasure them. Thinking of you all at this time and sending love.

    With love,
    Lynn, Paul, and family

I’m so sorry to hear about Auntie Mary’s passing. She was a wonderful aunt, and I’ll always remember and love her. She was smart, kind, sensible, and was a fabulous knitter, making beautiful sweaters for all her nieces, nephews, and later for the next generation too. Just four months ago, she knitted a blanket for my grandson that we will always treasure. So generous.

To Elizabeth, Patti, Bill and Dave and her grandchildren, I send my heartfelt condolences. I like to think she’s now having a good visit in heaven catching up with Uncle Les, Bobbie and Ma’am and the gang.

Your mom/grandmom was laudably caring and loving, and in return she was truly loved. I will miss and remember her. I’m very sorry and sad to hear about your loss. Please know that you are in my thoughts. Your mom was a strong, kind person and supportive sister to my mum. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Sending you love and support as you navigate your life without her.
