Darel Lang, 1939–2025

Our hearts are heavy as we share the news of the passing
of our beloved Dad, Darel Andrew Lang, just shy of his 86th birthday
after a long battle with cancer.

Dad’s final breaths were calm and peaceful as he passed with family by his side, following a lovely week where he participated in the Ormstown Fair parade with the help of his grandson pushing his wheelchair and to the cheers and laughter of his great-grandchildren, and a weekend surrounded by family.

Dad was the son of (William) Donald Lang and Jean Bennie, brother to Garry (Nancy) and Anne (Geof). He shared 50 wonderful years with his “soulmate” Dawn.

Dad was a loving and proud father to Beverly (Tarek) and Jill (Christian/Paco), grandfather to Sarah (Kwasi), Alya (Misbah), Karram, Adam, Andrew, and Nicolas, and a great-grandfather to a “crew” of 9. We have been blessed to have had these extraordinary parents as role models and pillars of strength. Dad is also remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews, with whom he shared many a fun time with the Lang and Graham families.

Fiercely proud and deeply rooted in the town where he was born, raised, and lived his whole life, Dad gave of himself whole-heartedly to the people and community that he so cared about. He held various roles at Ormstown Fair for over 50 years and was a volunteer with the Ormstown Fire Department for 22 years. He was also a member of the Curling Club and St. Paul’s United Church.

We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone at the Ormstown CHSLD, especially the staff on the 2nd floor, where Dad received such attentive and compassionate care. We would also like to thank the services of Les Aidants du Haut-Saint-Laurent, who provided much needed support earlier on in this journey – a special thank you is extended to Cheryl.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 28 at St. Paul’s United Church, followed by a brief service at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to join us at the Ormstown Fairgrounds Dining Hall following the service to share fond memories of Dad. He will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery located on Route 202 in Hinchinbrooke, at 4 p.m. that afternoon.

A final farewell to a man deeply loved, deeply respected,
and who will be deeply missed.
Love you, Dad!

At the request of our Dad, in his memory donations can be given
to the St. Paul’s United Church, by mail to 19 Lambton St., Ormstown QC J0S 1K0,

Mr. Lang or « Grandpa » will be affectionately remembered by us always. A kind man that shared his strawberries from Quebec not only with Jill and family, but their neighbours as well! Happy to chat with us whenever he came to Whitby to visit; always with a kind word. We are thinking of you all at this time. ❤️ Janette, Geoff and girls

Thinking of all the family at this time. You are all a testament to how Daryl and Dawn brought you up to be such a loving and compassionate family who gave him amazing support until he moved on. He will always live on in memory as part of the community.

We were saddened to hear of the death of Darel Lang. We first met Darel and Dawn in 1965. Our friendship grew over the years as we enjoyed happy times spent together in Ormstown, Beaconsfield, and Burlington. They were wonderful parents, grandparents, and friends.
Our deepest sympathies to their families, Ray and Anne Smith, Burlington, ON
