Lawrence Edward (Larry) McCaffrey, 1955–2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing
of Lawrence (Larry) McCaffrey, age 69, on October 31, 2025,
at the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown.

He has been reunited with his parents, James McCaffrey and Patricia Lawrence, and his brother, Brian.

Larry was the beloved husband, dance partner, and chum of Lynn Caza. He was a loving father to Anne Marie (Jonathan), Margo (Steven), and Sean Michael (Tess), and a proud grandfather to Rose, Dayna, Luke, Callum, Jack, and Iris—his “bigs,” “middles,” and “littles”.

He also leaves his brother-in-law André Caza and sisters-in-law Monique Caza (Luc Pintal) and Ruth Tully (feu Brian); he was a devoted uncle to their children, Josée-Anne, Marc-Étienne (Marie-Pier), Aryanne (Keven), Phillippe, Ryan (Cynthia) and Brett (Stephanie), as well as a great-uncle to Clara, Léopold, Arnaud, Lévi, Zoé, Louis, Lily and Lane. He was godfather to Philippe, and they shared many hours of conversation.

He will be dearly missed by his entire Lawrence clan, including Joyce Lawrence who grew up with Larry and Brian, as well as the extended Caza family.

Larry’s love for dairy farming was only surpassed by his passion for beautiful cows. He spent most of his career farming on “white land,” and often joked that he didn’t have to move to town—the town simply moved to him.

Deeply concerned about food insecurity in his community, the family kindly requests that in Larry’s memory, donations be made to your local food bank.

A true family man and a good friend, Larry was known for being a good listener, loyal, and deeply grounded in his convictions. He had a sharp sense of humour, worked tirelessly, and always cleaned up well. His presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

After a private funeral service, the family will receive condolences at the LBA Dining Hall, 1 McBain St. (on Ormstown Fair Grounds), between 3 and 7 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Larry’s passing. He had such a warm and friendly personality that it was always easy to reconnect with him during my infrequent visits back to the valley. It felt as though we could pick up right where we left off in high school — he made it that effortless.

Reading these messages makes it clear that Larry leaves behind a wonderful legacy of family. I know his loved ones are going through a difficult time, but I hope they can find some comfort in knowing that a part of his spirit lives on in the people who were closest to him.

Wishing his family comfort and strength.
    Harold
