Sharon Leila Fletcher (née Court), 1940-2026

Sharon passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Predeceased by her husband Norman (2022), she is survived and dearly missed by her daughter Nancy (John Stacey), her son Ron (Fiona Martin), her grandchildren Megan, Sydney, and Gregory, as well as her brother Ken Court (late Marilyn Smith).

Born in Campbellton, N.B. and raised across the river in Escuminac, Qc, Sharon came to Howick in the fall of 1960. With her outgoing personality and ability to make friends wherever she went, Sharon immediately immersed herself in the Howick and Châteauguay Valley community, as both a volunteer and employee.

The doors to the Fletcher household were always open. Norman and Sharon were welcoming and socialized with all. Kids, teens, and adults alike enjoyed many a brunch, Friday and Saturday “socials,” cards, lazy afternoons in the backyard or front porch, and lots of laughter.

Sadly, Sharon was diagnosed with dementia while only in her sixties, which led to many changes for both Sharon and Norman. Despite everyone’s best efforts, shortly after Christmas 2017, Sharon moved to Ormstown into La Maison Source Bleue, where she spent her remaining years lighthearted, at ease, and happy.

The family is deeply grateful to the many kind friends and neighbours who supported both Sharon and Norman during challenging times. We also thank the 3rd floor staff at the Barrie Memorial Hospital for their compassion and smiles while Sharon was in their care. A truly heartfelt thank you to the exceptional staff at La Maison Source Bleue for their kindness, patience, compassion, and much laughter during Sharon’s final years.

A private burial and a celebration of life
will be held at a later date.

Donations to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Barrie Memorial Hospital,
Ormstown, Qc would be appreciated.

My sympathies to Nancy and Ronnie and their families. Norman and Sharon were witty and engaging and always welcomed us in their home. We spent many hours rolling down that hill in the back yard, and exploring the pond near the willow tree.

I met Sharon at the schoolboard office in early 80’s where the trio of Helen, Peggy and Sharon reigned. Great discussions, recipes and laughs. My condolences to you all.

My sincere condolences for the loss of your beautiful mother. What a classy lady. As a Howick post office employee, it was always a pleasure to see Sharon come in to say hi. She was always full of happiness and joy. The beginning of her sentences were always “Well…” always with a positive attitude. My mother Shirley McWhinnie was shopping at her store and I still remember, even though I was very young, her kindness. She was a very nice lady. I will always remember her. ❤️

So saddened to learn of Sharon’s passing. She was always so welcoming to me and we shared many a wonderful laugh (and drink!) during my early adulthood. The CROSSLING family loved visits from Norman & Sharon. Both hold dear memories for us.
Love to Nancy, Ronnie & their families. You had wonderful parents! Xoxo
